Redland City Council is concerned that some residents are causing safety issues by blocking access to turnaround areas on bin collection days.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said Council trucks were being forced to reverse out of narrow streets and cul-de-sacs due to vehicles blocking turnaround areas.
“Council is asking residents and their visitors to remember a few simple rules to ensure everyone gets home safely to their families at the end of the day,” she said.

“This includes not parking cars, trailers, caravans or boats in cul-de-sacs the evening before or the morning of bin day to enable waste and recycling trucks to turnaround easily.
“When turnaround areas are blocked, trucks are often forced to reverse out of streets blind, which has caused several near misses and safety incidents.
“The other alternative is for bins not be collected if it is not safe for trucks to access the street, this means residents can be left with their bins not collected due to the actions of a few.”
Cr Williams said residents should also not place bins near any obstructions including trees and electricity poles, to allow easy and safe access for waste vehicles.
“We are asking for some common sense by all residents so the safety of our workers as well as residents who may be walking or driving in the area, are not put at risk,” she said.
“These simple but important measures can ensure the process runs smoothly and that residents and staff are not put at risk.”
