Crime Stoppers volunteers, a youth leadership program and Coochiemuldo Island CoastCare are among 33 local individuals and organisations to benefit from Redland City Council funding under Round 2 of its 2012/13 Community Grants Program.
Council contributed more than $184,000 during this funding round, to provide the not-for-profit sector with much needed funding to assist community initiatives that will benefit the residents of Redland City.
Mayor Karen Williams said this latest round of grants brought the Council’s total disbursement to $637,451 for 2012/13.

“It’s wonderful to see so many community organisations receiving the support they deserve to continue with their excellent work,” Cr Williams said.
“The vast majority of individuals involved with these groups are volunteers – who are passionate about supporting their communities.
“They often provide programs and services that may otherwise not exist. We cannot underestimate the value they provide.”
Council received 43 applications under the categories Organisation Support, Project Support and Conservation Grants, with 33 applications ultimately successful in receiving funds for their unique and worthwhile projects.
The winning grants were recently approved. Some of the successful recipients of Round 2 of the Grants include:
- Crime Stoppers Brisbane Bayside Volunteer Area Committee received $3,000 to support existing volunteers and attract new volunteers to the committee
- Bayside Outrigger Canoe Club Incorporated received $10,000 to hold a “Come and Try” event in September 2013 to promote this fun social sporting club for the whole family
- Briswestcare Association Inc received $9,856 to undertake a Sail Away Leadership training program for young people
- Wildlife Preservation Society Qld Bayside Branch received $9,600 to operate a collaborative project to capture on film the beauty and value of Moreton Bay’s mangrove forests and seagrass meadows.
- Coochiemudlo Island Coastcare Incorporated received $10,000 for restoration work to beaches and foreshores.
- Mangrove Housing Association Incorporated received $10,000 for the Redlands Youth Change Driver Group to formulate a Youth Crisis Accommodation Business Plan. The plan will bring together the resources of 11 organisations with a common goal of developing a crisis response for youth in Redlands.

Community Grants Program – Round 1 2013/14 Applications
The next funding opportunity will be Round 1 of 2013/14 which invites applications for the Organisation Support, Project Support, Conservation, Capital Infrastructure and Regional Arts Development Fund categories. Submissions open on 8 July 2013 and close on 16 August 2013.
Free Grant Application Writing Workshops will be held during July and August 2013. Further details will be available on our website in the near future. Eligible individuals and organisations who wish to apply for funding in Round 1 2013/14 are encouraged to attend the workshops.
