Redland City Council is using fun ways to engage young people, the latest being a logo drawing competition for primary school children in the Redlands.

Mayor Karen Williams said it was all part of ensuring that Council’s Child & Youth Friendly City policy, guidelines and planning tools were being promoted.

“To really get kids involved, we have asked primary school children to help us design a Child & Youth Friendly Redlands logo, through a drawing competition,” Councillor Williams said.

“All the entries are now in, and I must say, we have some very talented artists in the Redlands. We received over 250 entries and it was hard to choose just four finalists.”

Now it’s time to have your say. Vote for your favourite logo design online at www.redland.qld.gov.au from 19 November.

The child whose artwork receives the most votes (maximum of one vote per person and five votes per email address) by 30 November 2012 will be named the winner.

Their artwork will be incorporated into a logo used to promote and identify Council’s child and youth friendly activities and initiatives.

Mayor Williams said it was important for every generation to feel valued in our community.

“A drawing competition is a bit of fun and that’s a great way to connect with children”.

Certificates of participation will be sent out for schools to present to their students, and the school with the most entries will receive a prize.
