Redlanders should take care when wading in the bay after two adults were treated at Redlands Hospital on Friday for stonefish stings. Both are recovering from the incidents after being treated with a nerve block and antivenom. The pair were stung in separate incidents while wading near Masthead Drive, near Raby Bay, on Friday. Redland City Mayor Karen Williams was advised by Metro South Health late Friday and ordered warning signs to be erected at Redlands beaches. “This is a highly unusual occurrence but public safety is paramount and I urge all beachgoers to wear thick-soled shoes if wading in the Moreton Bay this weekend,” Cr Williams said. “The sting from a stonefish is very painful and victims should seek immediate medical attention.”
