The Redlands Coast community is invited to share ideas and insights as Redland City Council prepares for a new planning scheme.
The new Redlands Coast City Plan, which will eventually replace the current City Plan 2018, will set the strategic direction for how the city grows and evolves.
Acting Mayor Cr Julie Talty said planning for the city’s future was one of the most important responsibilities of government.
“The new Redlands Coast City Plan will guide land use and development for the next two decades, and will reflect the needs, opportunities and challenges facing our community,” Cr Talty said.
“It will help to ensure there is enough land for housing, businesses and employment; and will support the delivery of infrastructure and community facilities, while protecting the environment.
“Preparing a new planning scheme is a complex process that involves multiple stages and extensive collaboration and consultation, with final approval by the Queensland Government.”
At this stage of the project and as part of that process, Council is inviting feedback from residents, landowners, businesses, community organisations and industry representatives on the following:
- Suggested zoning changes for a particular property
- Proposed amendments to, or removal of, planning overlays
- Emerging land-use planning issues, opportunities or challenges not adequately addressed by City Plan 2018
- Suggested changes to assessment provisions, planning scheme policies or other planning controls that could be strengthened, simplified, updated or removed
- Any other planning matters that should be considered in developing the draft Redlands Coast City Plan.
Council’s Planning and Regulation portfolio representative Cr Rowanne McKenzie said Council had already commenced a range of background studies to help in the preparation of the new Redlands Coast City Plan.
“Council is also developing the strategic directions that will underpin the new planning scheme,” Cr McKenzie said.
“There are a number of steps and Queensland Government reviews that need to be undertaken as part of the process for developing a new city plan, and this will include public consultation on the draft document.”
More information, including how to complete the feedback form, is available on Council’s Your Say page.
