Sandbags can reduce the impact of flooding if they’re placed in appropriate locations around your home or business.
Redland City Council also reminds residents that sandbags should be placed correctly with a waterproof membrane like plastic sheeting or a tarp.

- Sandbags aren’t waterproof – you need to secure a plastic sheet on the outside of your entryways and low-lying windows
- Place sandbags on top of the plastic sheet in a brickwork pattern to weigh it down
- Make sure you are still able to exit your home quickly should you need to
- You can also place sandbags on your internal plumbing fixtures (such as your shower and sink drains, or closed lid of your toilet seat) to prevent wastewater backflow.
