Redland City Council has appointed Louise Rusan as the city’s next Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Mayor Jos Mitchell said Councillors welcomed the appointment.

“Councillors feel Louise will play an important role in supporting Council to set the new corporate and city plans,” the Mayor said.

“Louise’s experience in driving community-focused outcomes within complex organisations will ensure critical strategies, that shape how our region will thrive over the next two decades, deliver for our community.”

The appointment comes following a national recruitment, with a short list of candidates being presented to all Councillors prior to the final decision on the successful candidate being confirmed and resolved at yesterday’s General Meeting.

Acting Mayor Julie Talty said Ms Rusan’s appointment provided stability and opportunity for both the organisation and the city.

“It is a credit to Louise that her dedication and excellent leadership within Council over 15 years has been recognised with her selection as CEO,” Cr Talty said.

Ms Rusan holds a Bachelor of Business, is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and holds a Certificate in Organisational Coaching.

Ms Rusan knows Redland City well, having been Council’s acting CEO since September 2024 and has nearly 15 years’ experience in executive positions within Council, notably leadership of Community and Customer Services.

She has also held executive leadership roles with Queensland Motorways, where she was instrumental in implementing free-flow tolling, and WorkCover Queensland where she contributed to a significant financial turn-around. She also has more than 15 years’ private sector experience from her early career.

Ms Rusan will be appointed immediately as Council’s CEO, and the search will commence to recruit for her former position, General Manager Community and Customer Services.
