Residents are being invited to have their say on two of the Redlands’ most important and exciting developments.
An invitation is open to anyone interested to attend Redland City Council “open house” forums on the Toondah Harbour and Weinam Creek Priority Development Area projects.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the special community briefing sessions were opportunities to have a say on community issues and what the developments should include.

“There is an opportunity for both Toondah Harbour and Weinam Creek to be the catalyst for jobs and economic growth for the City and region and we are keen to hear what residents would like to see there, as well as what constraints and issues we need to consider,’’ Cr Williams said.
The Toondah Harbour “open house” forums will be from 2pm–4pm on Friday 9 August and again on Saturday 10 August at the Island View Cafe at the ferry terminal.
The Weinam Creek “open house” forums will be from 4pm–8pm on Thursday 15 August at Russell Island Recreational Hall and from 5pm–7pm on Friday 16 August at Redland Bay Hall.
Cr Williams said the vision for the projects, recently granted priority development status by the State Government, would help push the Redlands to the forefront of regional tourism.
“Toondah Harbour could be turned from what is basically a ferry terminal and car park into a dynamic precinct attractive to tourists as well as being a transport, retail and entertainment hub for locals,’’ she said.
“The vision is for an exciting mix of marine activities, parks, boardwalks and cycling paths, apartments, restaurants, shops and a hotel.
“Weinam Creek could be potentially transformed into a waterfront recreation precinct that does justice to its role as the gateway to the Southern Moreton Bay Islands.
“They mark a coming of age for the Redlands – and a massive vote of confidence in our city’s potential by the State Government.
“They will be catalysts for local job creation and economic growth, as well as boosting the Redlands’ and Queensland’s tourism credentials.’’
Survey forms will be available at all open houses, with an online survey for residents unable to attend. There also is a Register of Interest on Council’s website at www.redland.qld.gov.au.
“The sessions and Council’s online survey will give everyone a chance to have input into these projects, which will open access to the region’s greatest natural asset, Moreton Bay,’’ Cr Williams said.
International property firm Jones Lang LaSalle, which is working with Council on the expression-of-interest process, is currently talking to major development groups about the potential for their involvement in the projects.
Development schemes for both areas are expected to be released by the end of the year, with expressions of interest in the projects also to be called late this year.
