A delegation of university students from Japan met with Redland City Mayor Karen Williams this week to learn about Redlands Coast and the role of Redland City Council in the community.

The 34 students from Gifu University in Kani, Japan, were on an Australian study tour organised by their university’s Medical Science Faculty, in partnership with the Australia-Japan Wildlife Conservation and Education Foundation (AJWCEF).

Cr Williams, fellow Councillors, and members of Council’s Executive Leadership Team welcomed the students who had participated in English classes at the University of Southern Queensland before relocating to Redlands Coast for four nights.

“Gifu University, which operates a university hospital, is renowned for its medical education. Its Medical Science Faculty also strives to provide its students with global learning experiences,” Cr Williams said.

“While on Redlands Coast these students will be visiting the Mater Private Hospital Redland in Cleveland, and Marebello Aged Care in Victoria Point, to learn more about health care.

“Providing opportunities to expand the knowledge and learning experiences for visiting international students is just another example of our welcoming nature as a city, as well as it being an affirmation of our envious lifestyle and social wellbeing.

“Overseas students taking part in these study tours also get to see what a great place Redlands Coast would be to live and work.

“How great would it be for our city to welcome these same students back as highly skilled graduates and have them working in our local health sector.”

Cr Williams said the AJWCEF was dedicated to fostering collaboration between Australia and Japan in the fields of wildlife conservation and education.

The foundation plays a crucial role in promoting cross-cultural understanding and environmental preservation, she said.
