UPDATE: Dunwich Fire as at 3.30pm 23 August 2019

UPDATE as at 3.30pm 23 August 2019

A bushfire near Dunwich on North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) is currently burning within containment lines.

Crews were alerted to the fire burning within the vicinity of Mitchell and Rainbow Crescents at about 10pm on Thursday, 22 August.

Fire crews from Redland City Council, Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, and Queensland Fire and Rescue Service are supported on the island by State Emergency Service and Queensland Police Service personnel.

Fire crews are currently patrolling the area.

No property or infrastructure is currently under threat from the fire.

As a precaution, 25 people have been evacuated from the One Mile community and sheltered safely with families at Dunwich.

A further 10 people were evacuated from Moopi Moopi Aged Care Facility to aged care facilities on the mainland.

Redland City Council’s evacuation team and island Community Champions assisted with evacuation operations.

The fire is continuing to smoulder and may produce smoke throughout the remainder of the day and into the evening.

If affected by smoke, residents are advised to close windows and doors and keep their respiratory medications close by, if required.

Smoke may affect visibility on the road, so motorists should drive with caution and to conditions.

Council urges residents to stay informed and to contact triple zero (000) immediately if they believe life or property is under threat from the fire.

The previous bushfire warning has changed.

Multiple Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews remain on scene at a bushfire burning in the vicinity of Mitchell Crescent and Rainbow Crescent, Dunwich.

This fire is burning within containment lines and posing no threat to property at this time. Crews are currently patrolling the area.

This fire is smoldering and may continue to produce smoke throughout the day. Residents are asked to close windows and doors and keep their medications close by if suffering from a respiratory condition.

Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions. If residents are concerned their property is under threat they are advised to call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
