The community is invited to explore all things naturally wonderful at the IndigiScapes Environment and Community Fair on Saturday, 23 May.
Redland City Acting Mayor Julie Talty said the free event would include a diverse program of inspiring talks, live performances and hands-on experiences.
“This is a great opportunity for the community to spend some time outdoors with friends and family and celebrate the naturally wonderful lifestyle we are so lucky to enjoy here on Redlands Coast,” Cr Talty said.
“The Environment and Community Fair offers something for all ages and invites visitors to explore, learn and connect with the environment at their own pace and in a relaxed, family-friendly setting.
“The line-up of special guests for this event includes leading researchers, educators and performers and will be headlined by Gardening Australia’s Jerry Coleby‑Williams.
“With a key theme of the event being environmental protection and preservation, Jerry will discuss sustainable horticulture and growing greener and will also participate in a special Q&A session hosted by Ranger Stacey on the main stage.
“The popular Eco Markets are also set to return in the Botanic Gardens as part of the event, featuring all the usual favourites, including food vans, product stalls with sustainable creations, plus a live broadcast from Bay FM’s ‘G’day it’s Saturday’ team.
“Other attractions include damper-making workshops, weed weaving, bush bingo, messy play, a pop-up op shop, water bug discovery activities, native bee workshops, story time with Redland City Libraries, and so much more.
“The event will celebrate all the things that make our city such a naturally wonderful place to live, while also starting the countdown to World Environment Day on 5 June.
“From bush to bay, we have so much to be grateful for on Redlands Coast, and the event will explore how we can all play a role in protecting the natural environment for future generations to enjoy.”
Division 7 Councillor Rowanne McKenzie said beyond the main event activities, visitors could enjoy other IndigiScapes favourites, such as the bushwalking tracks and the native nursery.
“There is so much to see and do at IndigiScapes and if you’ve never been to the centre before, I encourage you to make time for exploration during the Environment and Community Fair,” Cr McKenzie said.
“The key attractions at IndigiScapes include the botanic gardens, bushwalking tracks with accessible boardwalks for wheelchair access, IndigiCafe, and the Discovery Centre and Gift Shop.
“The popular Native Nursery will also be open during the Environment and Community Fair, allowing guests to browse a wide variety of plants and gardening supplies.
“If you enjoy spending time surrounded by nature and love our naturally wonderful Redlands Coast environment, then this is the event for you.”
Redlands IndigiScapes Centre is located at 17 Runnymede Road, Capalaba. Parking is available via the nursery entry at 15 Runnymede Road.
Admission to the event is free, with activities officially commencing from 9am.
