Redland City Council is asking residents to remain vigilant following several reports of suspected phone phishing activity targeting members of the local community.
Phishing is a scam in which a person falsely claims to be from a trusted organisation, to trick people into giving personal or sensitive information.
Council has been made aware of recent incidents in which residents have received such unsolicited phone calls from people falsely claiming to represent Council.
During these calls, residents have been asked for personal or sensitive information, including details that would not typically be required for standard Council services.
Residents are reminded that Council will never ask for sensitive or personal information such as passwords, banking details, or other identifying information without appropriate verification processes.
Nor does Council doorknock, offering rebates or incentives.
