A major step has been taken towards easing parking pressures at Weinman Creek, Redland Bay, with Redland City Council resolving to transfer land to the Queensland Government for construction of a multi-storey car park within the Weinam Creek Priority Development Area.
Acting Mayor Julie Talty said the project would significantly increase parking for the community, particularly the four growing island communities that access the mainland by commuter ferry.
“Transferring the land for the car park is a practical and forward-thinking decision,” Cr Talty said.

“Council is fast-tracking this important infrastructure by working directly with the Queensland Government on its delivery.”
Division 5 Councillor Shane Rendalls said transferring the land did not cancel the existing PDA master plan, with a review on the precinct’s future design to follow.
“Increased parking at Weinam Creek is vital for our island communities; and I look forward to Council and Redland Investment Corporation staff regularly updating Councillors on the progress of the master plan and multi-storey car park, including the commercial and community benefits,” he said.
The Queensland Government, through Economic Development Queensland (EDQ), will undertake detailed design and construction planning of the car park in collaboration with Council and Redland Investment Corporation.
Updates on the project will be provided as milestones are achieved.
Note: The transfer of land between a local government and Queensland Government agencies is consistent with Section 236 of the Local Government Regulation 2012, whereas land transfers to private commercial entities are generally to be by public tender or auction.
