Exhibitions showcase people, places and ancient traditions

Redland Art Gallery is off to a flying start in 2026 with three exhibitions opening across three locations.

Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell said the exhibitions highlighted the diverse artistic talent of the region, while also engaging with the community and places.

“An exhibition by Prita Tina Yeganeh highlights the gallery’s commitment to storytelling by engaging with ancient traditions and strengthening cultural connections,” the Mayor said.

“My Soil Farsh فرش : Iteration 3 (Place, as Guest) reimagines the rich tradition of Persian carpets as a symbol of community and connection.

“We’re delighted that Prita has visited our region and designed the red soil Farsh (Persian carpet) for this exhibition.

“It offers gallery visitors a glimpse into the making of the Farsh and traces the labour, rituals and cultural tools that shape it.”

The gallery will also feature The Hidden and the Held by Sorour Fattahi, an artist from Russell Island.

“Sorour stitches her own hair into self-portraits; a thread once tied to beauty, then to loss, and now to quiet resilience,” the Mayor said.

“Her works explore the fluidity of identity, something that slips, unravels and reforms, and also embody her experience of migration, alopecia, depression and self-perception.”

Completing the trio of exhibitions is Passages at The Mezz, Redland Performing Arts Centre.

“This exhibition of works by members of The Coochie Art Group reflects travels through sea and countryside, evoking memory and connection to place,” the Mayor said.

“The concept invited a diverse range of responses, from seascapes and landscapes to portraiture, still life and abstract works.”

The dates for each of the exhibitions is:

  • Passages at The Mezz, Redland Performing Arts Centre, Cleveland until 13 March
  • My Soil Farsh فرش : Iteration 3 (Place, as Guest) at Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland from 8 February to 22 March
  • The Hidden and the Held at Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland foyer from 8 February to 22 March
