Redlands Coast residents have known it for a long time, but two recent liveability indexes have confirmed the city is among the top locations in Australia for overall health, wellbeing and quality of life.

Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell said the SGS 2025 Cities and Regions Wellbeing Index and the 2025 Australia Unity Wellbeing Index both reinforced the city’s reputation as an enviable place to life.

“The indexes are welcome recognition of the work by Council and the community to foster our local economy and enhance our city’s liveability,” the Mayor said.

“Last month, SGS Economics and Planning released their Cities and Regions Wellbeing Index for 2025 that looks at 24 indicators of wellbeing across areas including employment, housing, health, environment, economy, equality and work-life balance.

“The latest report shows that Redlands Coast maintained its ranking in the Top 5 of highest performing Local Government Areas in Queensland in terms of wellbeing levels – along with Brisbane, Gold Coast, Douglas Shire and Cairns, which toppled Noosa from this year’s Top 5.”

The Mayor said the annual Australian Unity Wellbeing Index put Redlands Coast among the top locations in Australia.

“This index focussed on seven wellbeing factors that combine and work together over time to build an individual picture of life satisfaction,” she said.

The annual wellbeing measurement of Australia has been undertaken by Deakin University for the past 20 years.

The Mayor said Council took its responsibility to maintain and foster the city’s lifestyle seriously, including it as an integral part of the organisation’s Corporate Plan.

“Public feedback closed earlier this month on the Draft Redland City Council Corporate Plan 2026-2031, which has Strong Communities as one of its principal goals,” she said.

“The goal aims for ‘proud, resilient and vibrant communities, where everyone belongs’, with one outcome being, ‘community infrastructure and facilities that strengthen social, lifestyle and wellbeing outcomes’.

“As the Redlands Coast population continues to grow, it is important that we keep our lifestyle at the forefront during decision making and in the early development stages of initiatives and policies.”
