The countdown has started to the Redlands Coast Lighting of the Christmas Tree and the official launch of Redland City Council’s Christmas program for 2025.

Mayor Jos Mitchell said the lighting of the tree at Raby Bay Harbour Park in Cleveland would bring the community together for two fun-filled nights of free festive entertainment.

“This family-friendly event will be held on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 November and is set to mark the start of Christmas on Redlands Coast and Council’s citywide festive trail,” the Mayor said.

“Entertainment across the two nights will include roving performers, free photos with Santa, market stalls, food trucks, rides, Christmas carols performed live on stage, and so much more.

“I’m pleased to announce that Redlands Coast talent will again be a feature of the festivities, with the entertainment line-up to include Mirusia and Liam Waldock and groups such as The Idol Trio and Redlands Rhapsody Chorus.

“We will also be featuring the entrants of Council’s Christmas artwork competition on the big screen across both nights, allowing the community to see the fabulous festive creations submitted by our young Redlanders.”

The community can join in the fun from 4.30pm on both days, with the lighting of the tree to take place at 6.30pm and the Christmas movie in the park to start about 7.15pm.

Screenings include How the Grinch Stole Christmas on Friday night followed by The Santa Clause on Saturday, before festive flicks move to the Russell Island Sport and Recreation Park on Friday 5 December for a screening of Elliot the Littlest Reindeer.

Families are invited to bring a picnic blanket or camp chair to enjoy the show.

“The lighting of the tree is just the start of the Christmas on Redlands Coast program, with other attractions on the citywide trail to include lighting displays, augmented reality experiences, and a wide range of events at Council venues,” the Mayor said.

“There will also be free carousel rides at Raby Bay Harbour Park between 28 November and 4 December, supported by Raby Bay Harbour, along with community-led events such as carols and markets.

“The augmented reality experiences are available at five locations, including the Redlands Coast Visitor Information Centre, Amity Point Community Club on North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah), Redlands Coast Museum in Cleveland, the ferry terminal at Toondah Harbour, and Sirromet Winery at Mount Cotton.

“Use your phone to scan the Christmas on Redlands Coast decals at these locations and watch coastal Santa come to life or visit Cleveland Point for a special augmented reality adventure at the Lighthouse.”

The community is also invited to drop by Council’s central Christmas hub at Redlands Coast Visitor Information Centre, 50 Middle Street, Cleveland, between 28 November and Christmas Eve to use the Santa telephone booth or enter the Christmas colouring competition.

Other venues participating in this competition include Council Libraries in Cleveland, Capalaba and Victoria Point and Redlands IndigiScapes Centre, Capalaba.

Entries close on Christmas Eve.
