Volunteers from the Redland City State Emergency Service (SES) Unit have returned home after assisting flood-hit communities on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales.
Local Disaster Management Group Chair and Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell said six members of the unit travelled to the area recently to bolster the emergency services presence across Kempsey, Port Macquarie, and Coffs Harbour.
“This was a big effort from our hard-working SES volunteers, who have travelled to various regions across the start of this year to assist communities in their time of need,” the Mayor said.

“The flood impacts on the New South Wales Mid North Coast have been devastating and I’m sure these extra boots on the ground made a big difference to the response and recovery efforts.
“My thanks go out to the volunteers involved in this event and the entire Redland SES Unit for their commitment to keeping the community safe at home and further afield when disaster strikes.”
The Mayor said the Redland SES volunteers were trained and equipped to deal with a wide range of emergencies.

“Our volunteers are always ready to answer the call, whether it’s here on Redlands Coast, in other parts of Queensland, or over the border in New South Wales,” the Mayor said.
“They are the ultimate professionals and had no hesitation in helping our southern neighbours when the request came through from the State SES for support to be provided on the Mid North Coast.
“This latest activation follows deployments earlier this year for flood events in North Queensland and Western Queensland, and the local response to Tropical Cyclone Alfred in March.
“The frequency of disaster events so far this year demonstrates that severe weather could strike at any time, and our community should ensure they are properly prepared all year round.”
