Redland City Council has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting small businesses on Redlands Coast by extending its participation in the Queensland Small Business Friendly program.
Mayor Jos Mitchell joined the Queensland Small Business Commissioner, Dominique Lamb, and other representatives to co-sign the program charter at a Queensland Small Business workshop held in Alexandra Hills this week.
“Council recognises the important contributions small and family businesses make to the Redlands Coast economy,” the Mayor said.

“Not only do they employ local people, but they also help to attract investment into the area and produce the goods and services our community needs.
“Signing the Small Business Friendly charter to extend our participation in the program will help strengthen the support offered to all members of the business community.
“Collaboration is key to unlocking more opportunities for these operators, and we are looking forward to continuing our close relationships with the city’s chambers of commerce and the Small Business Commissioner going forward.”
Economic Development Portfolio Councillor Peter Mitchell said being a small business friendly council meant ensuring operators across all industries were supported.
“The small business community on Redlands Coast is one of the most diverse in the state with representation across a range of industries, including tourism, education, manufacturing and construction,” Cr Mitchell said.
“One of our key responsibilities as a Council is creating an environment where local businesses can grow, evolve, and capitalise on emerging opportunities, regardless of where in the city they are located or what goods and services they offer.
“Continuing our participation in the Small Business Friendly program underlines our commitment to building a stronger local economy and enhancing the Redlands Coast business sector.
“There is no better occasion to extend our commitment to this program than during Queensland Small Business Month, when we celebrate the many contributions these operators make to our community.”
As part of its commitment to being a Small Business Friendly organisation, Council offers a range of business support programs and participates in initiatives aimed at helping operators boost their capabilities.
These include:
- Providing community grants, sponsorships, and event funding to activate centres.
- Connecting businesses with resources, networks and industry support.
- Collaborating with other government agencies and community organisations to promote local business and support workforce development.
- Offering a business concierge program that provides a range of support for local businesses to help them start, grow, and innovate.
