Summer’s here, school’s out, and it is time to have some fun.

Right across Redlands Coast there will be a wealth of school holiday activities.

Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell said the perfect places for families to visit during the break were Redland City Council Libraries, Redlands IndigiScapes Centre, Redland Art Gallery (RAG), and Redland Performing Arts Centre (RPAC).

“There is plenty of fun to be had and many of the activities are free,” she said.

“Our mainland libraries are hosting a range of festive-themed activities in December and January, including various craft ideas and a special Christmas story time visit from none other than Mrs Claus.

“Santa’s wife will be sharing her favourite Christmas stories and rhymes at Capalaba Library on Thursday 19 December from 9.30am to 10am.

“Other highlights of the libraries program include ‘crazy craft creations’ sessions; a peaceful and creative mindful colouring session for kids; a fairytale dress-up morning of themed crafts and games; a rock painting session just for teenagers; and an interactive song and dance presentation from Aunty Sharron.

“Children of all ages can also join the Redlands Coast Summer Reading Challenge, which is now in its second year.”

While these library activities are free, bookings are essential and children 12 years and under must be supervised by a parent or carer. All materials are provided.

For more details on the above and for everything happening at the city’s libraries these holidays go to the What’s On page.

The Mayor said Redlands IndigiScapes Centre at Capalaba offered plenty to keep children busy over the holidays.

“The playground includes a flying fox, wooden balance beam obstacle course, water pumping station and sand pit, an education trail and a hedge maze,” she said.

“There are three nature tracks to explore and plenty of great spots to have a picnic.”

The IndigiScapes Discovery Centre has interactive environmental education areas, microscopes, a lookout window, and touch screen activities, to spark children’s curiosity about the natural world.

While on site, children and families can also complete a new Agents of Discovery mission with fun interactive games using a smart phone.

For a magical time these holidays, families can enjoy free, fun-filled, bubble pop-up theatre and Christmas light shows at RPAC on selected evenings.

The Hoarderculturalist

You can also step into two exciting interactive shows: the enchanting The Hoarderculturalist, a nature-themed tale inspired by A Christmas Carol, or Scaredy House in January, which flips the idea of haunted houses upside down, think Goosebumps meets Minecraft with an existential twist!

Scaredy House

Check out the RPAC website for more details.

There also is a free drop-in Christmas activity available at RAG Cleveland.

Children of all ages can enjoy the gallery’s interactive colouring-in activity until 16 December where their masterpiece will magically come to life through augmented reality.
