Funding available to support Seniors Month events

Redlands Coast community organisations planning events for Queensland Seniors Month can now apply for funding from Redland City Council.

Mayor Jos Mitchell said this was the fourth year Council had offered a Seniors Month Funding Program for events to be held in October.

“Seniors Month is a great opportunity to celebrate the older residents in our community,” she said.

“This year’s theme of ‘Love getting older in Queensland’ aligns with the intent of Council’s Redlands Coast Age-friendly Action Plan 2021-2026.

“Council’s vision for the senior residents on Redlands Coast is for ageing to be a positive experience, where people can live active, fulfilling lives and participate in all aspects of the community.

“Bringing our older residents together helps them to create and maintain connections and friends and reduces loneliness and isolation.”

Providing funding for initiatives that support older residents is one of the actions outlined in the Age-friendly Action Plan.

“The Seniors Month Funding Program aims to support initiatives that bring people together,” the Mayor said.

“These initiatives can be active or passive in nature and cater to both our most mobile seniors and those with limited opportunities to get out and about.”

Community organisations can apply for grants up to $2000.

Applications close at 5pm on Sunday 7 July 2024.
