Redland City Council has awarded grants to 12 local projects in round two of the 2022-2023 Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).
Mayor Karen Williams said many of the projects, which received a combined total of $91,287 in finding, related to storytelling.
“While the telling of stories is at the heart of most of this round’s projects, the format for sharing those stories varies enormously, from the written word through performance and visual arts,” Cr Williams said.

“Kristian Santic will be developing The Hoarderculturalist, a theatre piece for children that will be performed in public spaces and beautiful community gardens on Redlands Coast.
“Norman Enoch’s Goompi and Poypi project uses art, storytelling, the Quandamooka language and history to create a series of books for younger readers about living on country.
“Themes of history, culture and place will be used as the basis for a number of projects and I look forward to seeing how those elements are interpreted creatively.”
RADF Assessment Panel Chair Cr Paul Bishop (Division 10) said nearly all of the nine categories of funding were represented in the current round of projects.
“The arts initiatives in this round fit within the categories of community arts and cultural development, multi-arts, music, theatre, writing, developing regional skills, heritage, visual arts, craft, and design,” Cr Bishop said.
“Within that framework, there are innovative approaches to arts projects and I am excited to see that some of the successful projects will be encouraging resident participation.
“Macleay Island Inspirational Writers Group will be looking for stories of island life for their Island Stories Anthology, while the SMBI Community Concert Band has taken the approach of ‘Never too early – never too late’ in recruiting members with any, or no, experience playing instruments.”
