Contrasting perspectives of Queensland’s natural beauty, iconic local architecture and common urban infrastructure will be showcased in two new exhibitions to open next month at Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland.
From Sunday 6 March to Sunday 17 April 2016, a selection of winning entries of the prestigious Tattersall’s Club Landscape Art Prize will be exhibited alongside Unregulated Spaces: Dennis McCart, a series of oil paintings of overlooked contemporary landscapes.
Redland City Council’s General Manager of Community and Customer Service Louise Rusan said the exhibitions featured a fascinating collection of artworks that profiled Queensland landscapes from different perspectives.

“Curated by Bernie Hollett to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the club, and 25 years of their esteemed national art award, Tattersall’s Club Landscape Art Prize will feature 15 award-winning artworks inspired by the landscapes of Queensland,” she said.
“From the fertile plains of the Darling Downs and rolling hills around Bundaberg to iconic contemporary infrastructure along the Brisbane River, the Tattersall’s Club Landscape Art Prize will exhibit in the Redlands as the first of a six-venue regional tour of the state during 2016-2017 thanks to Museums and Galleries Queensland.
“With works by some of Australia’s most celebrated landscape artists, including Gordon Shepherdson, John Caldwell, Michael Nelson Jagamara, Davida Allen, Sybil Curtis, Maureen Hansen and Joe Furlonger, the exhibition showcases a range of painting styles.”
Ms Rusan said the second exhibition of landscapes profiled commonplace yet largely unnoticed aspects of modern society.
“Unregulated Spaces adds a unique perspective to unremarkable landscapes located on the fringes of modern cities and suburbs, including freeway overpasses and bridges, railway lines, transmission tower corridors, suburban creeks, scrubland, and abandoned quarries,” she said.
“Created by Brisbane artist Dennis McCart, these oft unseen elements have been transformed into places of possibility and beauty through oil painting.”

Tattersall’s Club Landscape Art Prize is organised by Tattersall’s Club and toured by Museums and Galleries Queensland, with support from the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
