Below is a rolling update on the Straddie wildfire situation on Wednesday 17 September 2014.

3.45pm update from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services

North Stradbroke Island wildfire update: 3.45pm Wednesday 17 September

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services – QFES report that at 3.30pm today, the North Stradbroke Island wildfire has been declared OUT.

Fire crews from QFES and Redland City Council will remain on site overnight to monitor the situation and ensure no flare ups occur.

9.50am update from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services

Media release below issued by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.

Point Lookout (North Stradbroke Island) – bushfire as at 9.50am, Wednesday, 17 September

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES), Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) and Redland City Council fire crews are currently on scene at a bushfire burning south-west of Point Lookout, in inaccessible land. This fire broke out around 7.30pm yesterday (Tuesday) and is posing no threat to property at this time. Two aircraft are currently en route to this incident to provide aerial reconnaissance and water bombing support. Residents may be affected by a large smoke haze and are advised to close windows and doors and if suffering from a respiratory condition, keep medications close by. Motorists travelling in the area are urged to drive with caution and to conditions. Residents who are concerned their property is under threat should call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

9am update

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services – QFES advise that a wildfire is burning on North Stradbroke Island east of the Yarraman Mine on land owned by the Queensland Government Department of Natural Resources and Mines.

QFES staff, Queensland Police, local emergency service crews, staff from Sibelco Mining Company and Redland City Council fire crews are on site. Water bombing will commence by 9.30am this morning.

There is no immediate threat to life or property – but please monitor the QFES website and social media, our news site and social media and listen to 612 ABC radio for updates.

Additional fire, police and SES staff are on Straddie – people are urged to take direction from them as necessary.
