Redland City Council on 5 August 2014 planted 490 trees in the vicinity of Carolena Street, Cleveland, to replace vegetation that was removed by Council contractors in 2013.
The August 2014 works also included the installation of a wallaby control fence to protect the new plants. These trees include 470 Casuarina glauca, 10 Melaleuca quinquenervia and 10 Eucalyptus siderophloia. The area has also been prepared to encourage revegetation through natural regrowth and seed banking.
The original removal of vegetation in the area had been carried out in response to requests from some residents as part of Council’s View Management Strategy. Following this, Council was approached by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry regarding this vegetation clearing and the works completed on 5 August 2014 are part of an agreement between the Council and the Department to restore the area to its previous condition.
