Draft plans for the Redlands’ two most important and exciting new projects are now available for public viewing.
It is a significant step in the transformation of Cleveland’s Toondah Harbour and Redland Bay’s Weinam Creek Priority Development Areas into integrated transport, tourism, residential and business hubs.
Redland City Deputy Mayor Councillor Alan Beard urged Redlanders to check out the draft plans for the two projects that will help shape the future of the city.
He said the draft plans were the result of extensive consultation with the community and businesses and that process would continue.
“These Priority Development Areas mark a coming of age for the Redlands and will boost the city’s tourism credentials,” Cr Beard said.
“They herald an exciting new era of growth and promise a massive and much needed boost for business, jobs and community facilities.
“I encourage all residents to have their say on these plans during the public notification period which continues until 24 February.
“A range of community improvements, such as waterfront walkways and cycle paths and long-standing community concerns about car parking arrangements at Weinam Creek, are among the features being addressed as part of this planning process, so we urge all to be involved.’’
The Toondah Harbour Priority Development Area at Cleveland, on the southern shores of Moreton Bay, covers about 67 hectares, including 17.5ha of land and 49.5ha within Moreton Bay Marine Park.
Plans for the area will seek to reinforce the harbour as a point of community focus and a regional gateway to Moreton Bay and North Stradbroke Island.
Cr Beard said there were opportunities for mixed use and medium density residential development as well as tourism and retail-based development, dedicated ferry terminals, public open space and the potential for a private berth marina.
Community information forums on this project will be held on:
- Saturday, 1 February, 1-3pm at Island View Cafe, Toondah Harbour Ferry Terminal.
- Friday, 7 February, 3.30pm-5.30pm at Island View Cafe, Toondah Harbour Ferry Terminal.
- Saturday, 8 February, 1-3pm at Dunwich Community Hall, Dunwich, North Stradbroke Island.
The Weinam Creek Priority Development Area at Redland Bay covers about 42ha including 36ha over land and 6ha over water.
Cr Beard said the area offered opportunities for mixed use and medium density residential development.
Community information forums on the Weinam Creek plan will be held on:
- Thursday, 30 January, 5-8pm at Redland Bay Community Hall, Redland Bay.
- Thursday, 6 February, 5-8pm at Macleay Progress Hall, Macleay Island.
The Toondah Harbour draft plan and the Weinam Creek draft plan can be viewed online.
The draft plans also can be viewed at the Cleveland Customer Service Centre, Cleveland Library, Capalaba Customer Service Centre, Capalaba Library or Victoria Point Library, Russell Island Library and Bay Island Community Services on Russell and Macleay islands until 24 February.
The Toondah Harbour and Weinam Creek Priority Development Areas were requested by Redland City Council and were declared in June 2013.
