Noted event organiser Gary Humphries will head an expert line-up at a special free Redlands events workshop this month.

The Event Management Workshop on Tuesday 27 August at the Redland Performing Arts Centre will open the door to running events in the beautiful environment of the City.

Hosted by Redland City Council, it is open to anyone who is considering hosting an event.

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the workshop was part of Council’s continual streamlining of the City’s event management process and drive to build a busy and enticing calendar of attractions for the community.

“Events are at the heart of our cultural vitality,’’ Cr Williams said.

“Our ever-expanding line-up of popular events contributes to and strengthens our community, ensuring this City is a great place to work, live and play.

“They are also catalysts for creativity, diversity and innovation.

“By reducing red tape, simplifying application processes and improving our customer service focus we want to make it easier for organisers to provide opportunities for people to connect and enjoy our beautiful landscapes.

“The workshop is a must for anyone, or any organisation, planning to hold an event in the Redlands.”

The keynote speaker is Mr Humphries, who has managed and delivered some of Australia’s largest events, including the Gold Coast Indy, Brisbane World Masters Games and the Queen’s Birthday leg of the Olympic Torch Relay in 2000.

A panel of event management experts will offer their experience and insight.

The workshop, which will include morning tea and lunch, will provide all the necessary tools to prepare a comprehensive event management plan and allow for networking opportunities.

It will also address all necessary safety, health and environmental issues.

“This workshop will take people through such areas as promoting the event and ensuring they have all the necessary permits and approvals, right down to safety issues, traffic management on  the day and the importance of partnerships in making it a success,’’ Cr Williams said.

“It will take people step-by-step through Council’s streamlined event assessment process and introduce them to the one contact point for all requests.’’

A comprehensive new Event Management Kit complete with all relevant forms will be available.
