The highly-popular WH Yeo Park at Victoria Point is about to get a facelift, thanks to $300,000 worth of Redland City Council upgrades.

The first stage of works is already underway and includes replacing bollards, wheel stops in parking areas and park signage.

The second $220,000 stage will begin in April and will see replacement of many park facilities with new infrastructure.

Redland City Council’s infrastructure spokesperson Councillor Paul Gleeson said the works, due for completion by mid-May 2015 would revitalise the waterfront location.

“These works are part of Council’s ongoing asset renewal program, replacing community facilities and equipment that are nearing the end of their useful life,” Cr Gleeson said.

“Plans include upgrading the existing playground to cater for toddlers and primary school-aged children as well as installation of a small basketball shooting area.

“Residents and visitors will also benefit from upgraded picnic facilities throughout the park including the replacement of the existing shelter near the lower playground.”

Divisional Councillor for the area Lance Hewlett applauded the works, saying WH Yeo Park was not only a much-loved local park, but also a drawcard for visitors to the area.

“These asset renewal works will ensure that WH Yeo Parks remains a great family location for everyone to enjoy,” Cr Hewlett said.

“Recognising the natural beauty of this location, the planned works also allow for a small informal wedding space along the existing footpath overlooking the bay.”
