The Redlands has once again shown it is at the forefront of disaster management preparations by hosting emergency management professionals from across the state at a nationally recognised training course today (Tues 11 Feb).

Redland City Mayor and Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group Karen Williams said it was the first time the Advanced Diploma of Public Safety (Emergency Management) had been taught outside the Australian Emergency Management Institute.

“The fact that the Redlands is the first place outside of the institute to host this course shows the high regard we are held in when it comes to disaster preparations,” she said.

“The course will be taught by Redland City Council’s Disaster Planning and Operations Service Manager Mike Lollback, who is recognised throughout Australia as a leader in disaster preparations.

“Hosting this course will be invaluable to the Redlands’ ongoing disaster preparations, ultimately benefiting the entire city.

“The Redlands prides itself in its proactive approach to disaster management and this course follows on from the work we have already achieved, including the four part disaster plan we recently adopted that is recognised as a benchmark in disaster planning.”

Mr Lollback said the training course would be held in the fully equipped Redland City Local Disaster Coordination Centre.

“The course brings together disaster professionals from across the state to hone their skills, share experiences and identify best practice in preparing for, responding to and recovering from disaster events,” he said.

“Participants will be able to see our disaster coordination centre in action and get a taste for how it operates during a real emergency event.

“This course will also offer the opportunity for invaluable networking with other emergency services personnel.”
