Redland residents now have easy access to suburb-specific emergency planning information thanks to an online service launched by Redland City Council.

Redland City Mayor Cr Karen Williams said the www.redlanddisasterplan.com.au website, launched as part of ‘Get Ready Queensland Week’ from 13 – 19 October 2014, gives all the information people need to be prepared for potential local disasters and emergencies.

“We expect the website to be officially endorsed by the Redland Local Disaster Management Group this Wednesday 15 October, following feedback and consultation from Redland residents,” Cr Williams said.

“The Redland online disaster plans have a wealth of information about how to prepare and how to get information should an emergency threaten.

“More than that, local knowledge gathered through our community consultation has been incorporated into the disaster plans.

“This website has specific details for every area of Redlands including safe evacuation routes, local places to go in an emergency, natural hazards and critical infrastructure in each suburb.

“It also has contact details for emergency agencies and links to the Bureau of Meteorology for weather information.”

Redland City Council’s Disaster Prevention spokesperson Cr Alan Beard urged everyone to take the time to prepare for the coming storm and bushfire season now.

“The site is www.redlanddisasterplan.com.au and I urge everyone to check it out and save it to favourites on their computers and mobile phones.

“Having the knowledge of how to prepare and what to do at a local level could be lifesaving.

“As we have seen in the last few years with the North Stradbroke Island bushfires and other weather events, our City is not immune to disasters and every household has a role to play in preparing.”

Get Ready Queensland Week is a Queensland Government initiative encouraging all Queenslanders to consider their own emergency plans and preparedness.
