Redland singer-songwriter Breanna Fielding will mark a major career milestone when she takes the stage at the free Christmas by Starlight community concert at Cleveland on December 7.

“I’ll be doing my first live duet,” declares the 16-year-old excitedly. “And it will be with Connor Crawford!”

Former Sheldon College student Connor headlines a host of local talent for the night of festive family fun – it’s a homecoming and his first Redland performance since receiving critical acclaim while touring with Jersey Boys.

Ormiston College student Breanna, meantime, defies her years when speaking of her commitment to realising her “big dream” to be a worldwide performer, like Beyonce whom she recently caught in concert.

The R&B/Pop devotee is in the process of a hectic audition schedule for Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols in Brisbane and, outside of school, is rarely seen without her “little black book” which carries “pages and pages” of lyrics she has penned whenever she feels the urge.

“My friends don’t know about it,” says Breanna. “But I carry my book everywhere with me and I will just grab it and start writing stuff down – it can be about people I know or people I just have met … even just little things that grab my attention.”

Breanna also practices singing every day – more on weekends and ahead of performances – and is taking piano lessons as well as teaching herself “basic” guitar.

“I still do all the stuff normal teenagers do,” she says. “I go to Straddie, I go to the movies … and I love sushi!”

Having started dancing at the age of 3, singing at 6 and acting at 8, Breanna has already compiled an impressive CV of achievements, including a lengthy list of community and competitive performances.

When asked of her immediate goal she replies: “to sing the national anthem in front of a huge crowd at a major sporting event”.

The free Christmas by Starlight concert at Cleveland on December 7 is expected to draw up to 15,000 people to enjoy an evening of family festive fun.

There will be children’s entertainment from 3pm, a special children’s concert from 5.30pm, and traditional twilight carols from 6pm as well as a spectacular fireworks finale at about 8pm.

The event is run by Redland City Council, with the assistance of confirmed supporters Energex, Bayside Bulletin, JJ Richards, Fiteni Homes, Stradbroke Flyer, Viking Rentals, SS Signs, Mr Fireworks, Koala Graphix and Christmas Festivities.

Check www.redland.qld.gov.au/cbs for a full program and details of free transport.
