Redland City Council is investigating potential development options for sites within the Cleveland city centre as part of its mission to revitalise the CBD.

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said a preliminary report tabled at today’s (20 Nov) Council meeting looked at potential options for Council owned land, but did not make any guarantees regarding the options.

“This report is part of Council’s vision of breathing new life into the Cleveland CBD and investigates several options including development of the current Council administration site and near-by land,” she said.

“The options presented have the potential to deliver millions of dollars in cost savings to Council, which in turn would deliver considerable benefits for ratepayers.

“The aim is to identify opportunities to support investment and business within the CBD and to implement a range of strategies in the Cleveland Centre Master plan.”

CBD activation spokesperson Cr Craig Ogilvie said the report provided the information needed to progress with further options analysis.

“This report does not make any commitments; although it does provide some food for thought and allow Council to investigate potential investors that could facilitate the options in the future,” he said.

“Options include construction of a new building on Council owned land with a variety of scenarios including residential and commercial use within the new building.”

“All options present benefits for the community including improved commercial and residential opportunities.”
