Redland City Council is encouraging local skaters and BMX riders to have their say on the design for new skateparks and BMX tracks at William Taylor Memorial Sports Field in Thorneside and Cascades Park in Victoria Point.
Mayor Jos Mitchell said four workshops would be held to help skate and BMX park users identify the features they would like to see included in the final designs.
“Our skate and BMX parks across Redlands Coast are well-loved facilities that provide hours of outdoor entertainment, particularly for our younger residents,” the Mayor said.
“If getting outdoors and active on your skateboard or BMX is what you like to do, I encourage you to sign up to help design the new facilities for these two popular parks.”
Division 4 Councillor Lance Hewlett said funding for the upgrade and renewal of the youth spaces in Cascades Park was approved in Council’s 2025–2026 Budget.
“Having local skaters and BMX riders participate in design workshops helps ensure the skatepark and BMX track are relevant for the community to enjoy for years into the future,” Cr Hewlett said.
“There will be opportunities to workshop ideas and designs, and this is a great example of Council working with key stakeholders and end users to create spaces for our community.”
Division 10 Councillor Paul Bishop said the new district-level skatepark and BMX track at William Taylor Memorial Sports Field were part of the recreation zone that is due for completion by June 2027.
“We have been planning new skate and BMX facilities at this local park for a number of years and I am delighted that locals are once again being invited to have their say before final designs are developed,” Cr Bishop said.
“At the workshops, attendees will be guided through activities such as picture voting and sketch design to help visualise the shaping of the new space – it will be a fun and engaging way for children and adults to have their say on this important project.”
