Works have started this week on two extensive drainage and water main projects on Redlands Coast.

The existing water main on Whitehall Avenue, Birkdale, is being replaced in stages to ensure there is continued reliability to the water distribution network.

The original main has reached the end of its useful life and a new one will be laid in the 460 m section from No.1 Whitehall Avenue to the intersection of St James Avenue.

Water pipes from the main to the property meters along the affected route will be replaced as part of the project. Affected property owners have been contacted by Council about the works.

In Alexandra Hills, Council contractors will install underground soakage drains, upgrade roadside stormwater pits and replace sections of damaged kerb and channel along Crown Road.

The installation of underground soakage drains will remove water under the road which will increase the lifespan of the road.

Both projects are scheduled to be completed in the first week of December 2025, subject to weather conditions.

Road resurfacing and associated works are currently underway in Ormiston and Thornlands, with green sealing of roads continuing on Macleay Island.

Work is also continuing on the replacement of a water main on Begonia Crescent, Mount Cotton, with that project hoping to be completed by 31 October.
