Unfortunately, the lighting of the Redlands Coast Christmas Tree event scheduled for tomorrow will be postponed this year due to the forecasted continuing wet weather.

But it takes a lot more than that to dampen the Christmas spirit of Redlands Coast with Redland City Council’s four-week Christmas festival continuing full-steam ahead.

The tree lighting event will be rescheduled for next Friday, 29 November, while the city-wide Christmas on Redlands Coast program will still kick off tomorrow with a host of other activities.

There will be Christmas activations and collaborations at various locations right across the mainland and island communities, such as free movie nights, an augmented reality Christmas Trail and colouring-in competition, lighting displays, and a Santa Hotline.

The activities include:

  • Augmented Reality Christmas Trail (until 20 December): Join the festive fun with our Christmas Trail, enhanced by augmented reality. Embark on an exciting adventure trail as you search for festive characters featured on floor decals at nine Redlands Coast locations. If you download the free Creativitek app on your smartphone and hold it over the characters they’ll come to life.
  • Interactive Colouring-in Competition (until 16 December): Join our interactive festive colouring-in competition where, if you scan your completed entry, you can watch it magically come to life. Enter the draw for a chance to win one of eight $50 Cineplex gift cards.
  • Christmas Hub featuring Santa’s Hotline (until 22 December): Visit our new Redlands Coast Visitor Information Centre at 50 Middle Street, Cleveland. Make a special call to Santa from our Santa phone booth and leave him a message. You can even get a copy of your message sent to your phone as a memento.
  • Christmas Lighting Displays (nightly): Get into the Christmas spirit by visiting our stunning Christmas light displays at Cleveland Point, Raby Bay Harbour Park, Victoria Point Library Square, and Wellington Point Village Green.

For maps, colour-in sheets, and more information about the above activities, head to the Redlands Coast Christmas Trail web page.

Fun festive programs are also planned at Redland Performing Arts Centre, Redland City Council Libraries, Redland Art Gallery and Redlands IndigiScapes Centre.

Santa Claus said he encouraged everyone to check out the program and plan their Christmas celebrations on Redlands Coast. He added: “At the moment the weather outside is frightful, but (with apologies to Dean Martin) let it go, let it go, let it go!”

The jolly old man said he was looking forward to the rescheduled Christmas Tree lighting event at Raby Bay Harbour Park, Cleveland on 29 November from 4.30pm.
