The Capalaba Library and Customer Service Centre have opened at their temporary new location in Capalaba Central Shopping Centre.

The new venue is located at the Woolworths end of the centre in the space previously occupied by Coles and will operate while the nearby Town Centre is under redevelopment.

Keeping the venue central to the suburb’s major shopping and commercial precinct during the construction works will ensure the community has easy access to these Redland City Council services.

The usual library resources, programs and events will be available at the temporary premises, along with over-the-counter services for rates payments, pet registrations and more.

The new venue also has been fitted out with study spaces, bookable meeting rooms, public computers and printers, and dedicated areas for teenagers and children.

The relocation of the facilities from Noeleen Street to the shopping centre is required for works to start on the multimillion-dollar Capalaba Town Centre Revitalisation Project.

Council is working with subsidiary company Redland Investment Corporation (RIC) and preferred development partner Shayher Group to deliver the master-planned precinct.

The $250m project is set to transform the 1.55-hectare site behind Capalaba Central Shopping Centre into the urban heart of Capalaba.

Stage one works are expected to start in early 2025 and will include a new Council library and Customer Service Centre, contemporary arts facility, and three levels of office space.

The master plan for the site also includes enhancements to the entertainment and restaurant precinct, retail and mixed-use residential and commercial areas, and a community hall.
