Multiple hazard reduction burns will be undertaken within sections of bushland in the Point Lookout/Mulumba area on North Stradbroke Island/Minjerribah between Monday 31 July and Friday 4 August 2023, weather conditions permitting.

The burns will be undertaken by Redland City Council’s Parks and Conservation crews in conjunction with Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation community rangers.

The locations of the burn areas are highlighted in yellow on the map:

  • 89-99 East Coast Road, Point Lookout (East Coast Road Conservation Area)
  • 143-151 East Coast Road, Point Lookout (Tramican Street Conservation Area) and
  • 27-43 Samarinda Way, Point Lookout (George Nothling Conservation Area).

The purpose of these burns is to reduce the volume of forest litter fuel, which will assist with hazard reduction – reducing the fire danger and providing conditions essential for native regeneration.

It is appreciated that these burns may cause some inconvenience, however all attempts will be made to limit any smoke hazards from the work.

Traffic management (advisory signs and smoke hazard signs) will be in place as a contingency, in case smoke presents a hazard to the localised streets.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution and to conditions.

Council recommends that people close their windows and doors and those who have a respiratory condition keep their medications nearby.

Please note, other agencies may undertake hazard reduction burns in other areas on North Stradbroke Island over coming weeks, weather and resources permitting.
