A celebration at IndigiScapes to mark World Environment Day will be a fun and inspiring day filled with free activities, food, entertainment, and workshops.

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the Environment and Community Fair on 3 June promised to be a fun-filled day for everyone.

“IndigiScapes is a much-loved nature-based community asset and is the perfect venue for Council to host this major World Environment Day event,” she said.

“Coinciding with the popular Eco Markets, the fair offers the community a fantastic opportunity to learn from the experts about diverse environmental topics.

“There will be speakers and workshops about native bees, creating habitats for frogs in your backyard, composting, worm farming, native fish, and the insect world.

“We have been fortunate in securing Hannah Moloney as our special guest speaker.  Hannah is a leading permaculture landscape designer and educator, and a regular presenter on ABC’s Gardening Australia. For anyone interested in sustainable living, Hannah’s talk and workshop are not to be missed.

“A host of environmental and community organisations ranging from Dolphin Rescue to Organic Growing will be on hand to share information about their activities.

“Residents interested in Council programs and activities can engage with our teams from the areas of bush care, wildlife, environmental partnerships, waste program, disaster and fire management, and libraries.

Cr Williams said the IndigiScapes café and native community nursery would be open throughout the event.

“For a great day out with friends and family, the beautiful grounds of IndigiScapes are a great place to relax, have fun and learn about the natural world on World Environment Day,” she said.

Division 7 Councillor Rowanne McKenzie said she was excited about the range of outdoor and eco craft activities, food and market stalls on offer at the Environment and Community Fair.

“The Eco Markets have secured even more wonderful local food and refreshments stalls, and activities for both kids and adults will keep everyone busy,” she said.

“Live musicians and roving entertainers will be adding colour and music to the atmosphere, including Aboriginal dancers and a didgeridoo performance, while Ranger Stacey, D’Aguilar Wildlife and Geckoes Wildlife will be introducing some special furry visitors on stage.

“A highlight will be a vocal performance by Deline Briscoe, a Yalanji singer and songwriter from the Daintree region, whose music blends gospel singing with traditional Yalanji singing.”

The Environment and Community Fair is happening from 9am to 2pm on Saturday 3 June 2023 at Redlands IndigiScapes Centre, 17 Runnymede Road, Capalaba.

Event parking is accessible via the Nursery entry at 15 Runnymede Road, or Lyndon Road and Korawal Street (take a short stroll through the bush track to the gardens). A shuttle bus will be operating from Lyndon Road and Korawal Street to the IndigiScapes carpark every half hour from 9.00am to 2.00pm.

Council encourages the use of public transport to visit IndigiScapes. Buses 264 and 270 stop outside IndigiScapes Centre, with services from Capalaba and Victoria Point. Timetable details can be found on Translink’s website at Route 264 and Route 270.
