You may see some Redland City Council employees, predominately our outdoor workers, exercising their right to strike on Friday 5 May outside our main administration building in Cleveland in relation to pay and conditions.

Council fully supports our employees’ rights to strike as a new Employees’ Certified Agreement is finalised.

We have also made arrangements to limit any impact on the Redland Coast community.

Council is committed to providing a fair and responsible pay increase to its employees, balanced with managing ratepayer money.

Council has made what it considers a reasonable wage increase offer of 5 per cent in the first year, backdated to 1 July 2022 in recognition of the time since employees have received a pay increase.

Second and third-year increases are dependent on the full log of claims being finalised.

In the interests of resolving the matter so employees can receive a fair wage increase as quickly as possible, Council made an application to the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) for assistance on 19 April 2023.

Council is currently awaiting a scheduled QIRC conference date.

Council acknowledges this is a difficult process for employees and is committed to finalising negotiations so an increase can be applied as soon as possible.

Last year Council negotiated with The Services Union for a new Officers’ Agreement, which was endorsed in December with a 97 per cent ‘yes’ vote in favour of the package.

Council respects employees’ rights to participate in the protected industrial action and will not prejudice any employee because of their intention to participate, or their participation in, the notified action.
