Redland City Council has acknowledged the efforts of Redlands Coast volunteers with a special Christmas brunch at Historic Ormiston House.

The event, held on Saturday, 7 December, followed International Volunteers Day, which falls on 5 December each year.

Mayor Karen Williams said the event was staged to thank the hundreds of volunteers across Redlands Coast who dedicated their time to helping the community.

“Volunteers make an incredible impact on our community and we want them to know how much their dedication and hard work is appreciated,” she said.

“There is a vast number of community services, from school tuck shops to sporting groups, hospital auxiliaries and so much more, that simply wouldn’t run were it not for volunteers.

“Holding a brunch that recognises this small army of unpaid workers is a way to say thank you for continually pitching in and helping to make a difference on Redlands Coast.”

Cr Williams said the event attracted almost 200 volunteers, who mingled with other guests and enjoyed the stunning panoramas that Historic Ormiston House was famous for.

“It was great to meet so many volunteers,” she said.

“They were able to take a tour of the historic building and gardens and share their stories with fellow volunteers and officials.

“We know our volunteers don’t seek the limelight but I want them to know that what they do is noticed.

“The work of volunteers helps shape our community, so I’m hoping by holding this event they will know the community is proud of them.”
