Redlands Coast residents wanting to find out about ageing in their own homes are encouraged to attend a special presentation focussed on creating and maintaining a connected and supportive community for local seniors.

Redland City Mayor Karen William said Council would be hosting two special presentations by Waverton Hub (NSW), free to the community.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Redlands Coast seniors, community groups and providers of social services to investigate a very successful Australian model for ageing well in the community,” Cr Williams said.

“Waverton Hub – run by 300 volunteer members – exists solely to enable its members to age well within their own homes – for as long, as meaningfully and inexpensively as possible.

“The group has been so successful that it has received an Australian Government grant to travel the nation, sharing its experiences to encourage other communities to set up their own senior hubs.

“We know Redlands Coast has an ageing community and Council is committed to looking for innovative approaches that empower people to play an active role in their retirement years.

“To cater for our mainland and island residents, there will be two events to choose from.”

“Book now to learn about the benefits to members and resources available to set up a hub; and explore whether with this model could be adapted for local use.”
