Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell has launched her inaugural Christmas Appeal to support Redlands Coast residents in need during the festive season.

The two charity partners – Meals on Wheels Brisbane South and Redland Community Centre – will use donated funds to assist local residents experiencing or at risk of homelessness, domestic and family violence, or other hardship.

“I sought to initiate the appeal to assist our wonderful community organisations raise funds for those in need across our city,” the Mayor said.

“I am delighted to have both Meals on Wheels and Redland Community Centre on board as charity partners for the 2025 Redland City Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.

“We received a great response to a call out for local community-focused organisations to facilitate online donations and I wanted to give every charity who applied and met the criteria an equal opportunity to be part of this inaugural appeal.

“Redland City Council assessed applicants for eligibility and I then selected the two 2025 charity partners from a hat.

“It was a pleasure to meet with the general managers of both organisations recently and it was inspiring to hear how they are planning to use the funds donated through the Appeal to support those in our community experiencing hardship over the festive season.”

Meals on Wheels Brisbane South General Manager Monique Belousoff said funds donated to the appeal would provide delicious meals to bring comfort to those who needed it most.

“All the funds raised will go to providing nutritious frozen meals to domestic and family violence shelters, and homeless and crisis services across Redland City,” Ms Belousoff said.

“The meals will be similar to those we provide our regular home delivery customers and will be coordinated by our centres at Cleveland and Victoria Point-Redland Bay, which looks after the bay islands.”

Redland Community Centre General Manager Ronan Wicks said funds raised through the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal would directly support local families experiencing financial stress and individuals experiencing homelessness or domestic violence.

“The funds will help expand our Christmas Project to reach more local children and families with gifts and food hampers, and establish a dedicated ‘Homeless Christmas Hamper’ initiative providing nutritious food and hygiene items to people sleeping rough or in crisis accommodation,” Mr Wicks said.

“All funds will stay within Redlands Coast, delivering practical support, restoring dignity and ensuring everyone can experience a sense of care and belonging this Christmas.”

The Mayor encouraged everyone to give generously to one, or both, of the charity partners to help them support local community members in need this Christmas.

“If you are able to assist, please go to the appeal webpage at redland.qld.gov.au/MayorChristmasAppeal, where you will be able to select the charity partner you wish to support and click straight through to their online donation platform for the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.

“Your donations will go directly to our charity partners, who will use the funds to make the festive season a little brighter for vulnerable individuals and families across our city.”

The 2025 Redland City Mayor’s Christmas Appeal will remain open until midnight on Christmas Eve, 24 December.

The Mayor said Redland City Council would also continue its partnership with STAR Community Services, supporting their annual Secret Santa for Seniors appeal by providing drop-off points for the donation of goods at Capalaba, Cleveland and Victoria Point Libraries.

“You’ll find a link to STAR’S Secret Santa on the Christmas Appeal landing page, for those who would like to donate goods,” the Mayor said.
