Redland City Council has provided funding to support six community-led projects that will bring people together and help activate local village centres.
Mayor Jos Mitchell said more than $66,600 had been allocated in the latest round of the 2024-2025 Village Events and Activation Grants program.
“These grants support not-for profit community organisations and village traders to work collaboratively to deliver fun and engaging events and activities for residents and visitors,” the Mayor said.
“In the process, the grants program aims to build community connection and stimulate economic activity in our village centres.
“I am advised this year’s recipients include three Christmas events, including what have become popular annual events in Redland Bay and Mount Cotton.
“It’s also pleasing to see three events supported on the islands, with a community music event on Macleay Island, a multicultural festival on Russell Island, and an oyster festival on North Stradbroke Island.
“Redland City Council is committed to celebrating our diverse cultures and encouraging visitors and residents to experience what Redlands Coast has to offer, and this grant program supports that objective.”
Projects awarded Village Events and Activation Grants funding are:
- TIDE-Island Events Redlands Coast for a community music event on Macleay Island on 27 July
- Bay Islands Multi Sports and Recreation Association (BIMSARA) for the Bay Islands Multicultural Festival on Russell Island on 30 August
