Get the Facts – Solar rebates

Redland City Council has been made aware that a social media post and other advertising being distributed in the city incorrectly infer that Council is offering a rebate for the installation of roof top solar panels.

The advertisements, titled “Redland City Council”, state: “Govt will cover up to $7000 to install solar if you own home (sic) in an active postcode”.

Council does not offer a rebate scheme for solar power. Residents can learn more about solar energy and tariffs by going to the Queensland Government’s Solar Power for Your Home webpage guide.

Council also has been made aware of “roof cleaning and painting” signage recently being attached to street poles and other public infrastructure.

Council reminds residents to always use an accredited tradesperson – and recommends that residents check contractors have an Australian Business Number (ABN), a certificate of insurance, and are licenced by a relevant authority.

Over the Christmas break, Council also encourages residents to be cautious about unsolicited calls, text messages, and online scammers.

Information about scams, how to identify them, how to report them and how to avoid being caught can be found on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and Scamwatch sites.
