Redlands Coast residents can ‘act local, buy local’ at the Eco Market at Redland City Council’s IndigiScapes Centre on Saturday 7 December 2024.

Mayor Jos Mitchell said the open-air event would feature family-friendly activities and entertainment alongside stalls offering fresh local produce and inspirational ideas for a sustainable Christmas.

“This year there will be an awesome range of stalls with eco-friendly products and artisan produce from our local creative market community, with plenty of ideas for sustainable Christmas gifts and decorations,” the Mayor said.

“You will also be able to learn about the work of Redlands Coast environmental and community organisations and Council’s Environment Education team.

“This market is very much about supporting and caring for our own community through learning about our environment, and choosing local businesses and eco-friendly and hand-crafted products.

“With Christmas just ahead, there’s a great chance you will find unique gifts for family and friends.”

The Mayor said the market, surrounded by nature in the centre’s native botanic gardens, was a celebration of Redlands Coast’s naturally wonderful environment.

“Ranger Stacey will welcome you under the shade of the trees as you settle in to enjoy family entertainment on the outdoor stage,” she said.

“You will be able to hear the award-winning Redlands Rhapsody Chorus from 10am and meet Bethany Chambers of Merry Go Round Toys, who recently returned from London after being awarded the Women Changing the World award for social enterprise.”

Division 7 Councillor Rowanne McKenzie said there would be plenty of food options, including the IndigiScapes Cafe, and children’s activities including facepainting with Fairy Raine’s beautiful native flora and fauna designs.

“There will be free eco-friendly nature activities and outdoor play for all ages, with Sparky Do Dah unpacking his outdoor playground for the kids and GumtreeKids, where little ones can get creative at their Messy Play tables,” Cr McKenzie said.

“The Suitcase Rummage is always popular with those looking for a pre-loved bargain.

“IndigiScapes Native Community Nursery will be also open from 8am for those who want a living gift or plant advice.”

The Eco Market will be held from 8am to 12pm on Saturday 7 December at Redlands IndigiScapes Centre, 17 Runnymede Road, Capalaba More information is available on the IndigiScapes website.
