Redland City Council is trialling sensors at Cleveland Point that will be used to monitor the condition and use of assets across Redlands Coast.

Smart technology allows Council to capture meaningful data around asset condition and use, which can inform asset planning, ensuring budget and resources are directed where they are most needed.

The initial pilot area allows for several sensor types to be trialled within a defined area.

An asset sensor being trialled on play equipment at Cleveland Point.

Sensors are identified with a Council logo and measure vibration, motion and ambient conditions.

  • These sensors are NOT being used to monitor compliance with local laws.
  • They are NOT being used for issuing fines.
  • They are NOT cameras and do not record video or images.
  • The sensors collect vibration and environmental data (temperature, humidity, air pressure, light).
  • The location of trial sensors does not indicate a change is planned for an area.

Council manages more than $4 billion worth of assets, from buildings and playgrounds to roads and toilet blocks.
