School is out for the year and fun is in – with plenty of holiday activities for children of all ages on Redlands Coast.

Mayor Karen Williams said there would be things to do at Redland City Council libraries, Redland Art Gallery, Redlands IndigiScapes Centre and Redland Performing Arts Centre.

“Whether your children enjoy craft, magic, anime, art or the great outdoors, there is sure to be something to appeal to all interests,” Cr Williams said.

“In great news for local families, nearly all of the activities at Council venues are free.

“Our mainland libraries are hosting a range of festive-themed activities in December, including making gnome decorations and stained-glass Christmas trees along with a special Christmas story time.

“There are plenty of other activities such as comic book art, make your own mask, a Punch and Judy puppet show, loom band creations, Minecraft pixel art and an interactive magic show.

“Teenagers haven’t been forgotten, with Anime X club, boardgame and gaming drop-in sessions, and Kawaii watercolours.

“Children of all ages can also join the Redlands Coast Summer Reading Challenge, which offers unique challenges and weekly prize draws.”

Cr Williams said children could also unwind, unplug and reconnect with nature at Redlands IndigiScapes Centre.

“The centre’s outdoor spaces encourage self-guided exploration, bush walks and picnics while children enjoy playing in nature, climbing, sand and water play or hanging out on the flying-fox,” she said.

“The Discovery Centre will encourage children to explore their natural world and get creative with nature craft and activities, and they can also complete a new Agents of Discovery mission with fun interactive games using a smart phone.

“They can then join their family or friends for a treat or lunch at IndigiScapes Café and plan their next adventure.

“Another great activity for children from four to 16 years are the Flipside Circus workshops to be held at Redland Performing Arts Centre in December.

“There are a number of workshops teaching skills such as the trapeze, hula hoop, tumbling, juggling, devil sticks and mini trampoline.”

Children can also channel their creative energy through a clay stop-motion animation workshop with Bazil Grumble to be held at Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland in January.
