Visitors to Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland can experience the best of the long-running Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT) series of exhibitions when Asia Pacific Contemporary: Three Decades of APT arrives on Redlands Coast from 25 August to 8 October 2023.
Presented by the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA), the exhibition includes vibrant and innovative works reflecting diverse customary practices and cultural encounters, and illustrates extraordinary social change over almost 30 years.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the city was fortunate to have been chosen as one of the tour venues for the 30th anniversary of this exhibition.

“The Asia Pacific Triennial has been a significant exhibition series for QAGOMA and it’s wonderful to be able to share highlights from leading contemporary artists in the region, from the 1980s to the present day,” Cr Williams said.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for Redlands residents to experience contemporary art from the Asia Pacific region and I’m very excited we are able to host this exhibition in our Cleveland gallery.”
QAGOMA Director Chris Saines said they were thrilled to have the opportunity to tour this exciting exhibition.
“It profiles key moments from the Gallery’s flagship exhibition series, which has contributed so much to our audience’s engagement with and understanding of contemporary art and culture in the region,” Mr Saines said.
The exhibition reflects APT’s embrace of contemporary art in all its forms and includes painting, sculpture, works on paper, video and performance.
It includes otherworldly mythological paintings from the early 1990s by Heri Dono (Indonesia), drawing on traditional Javanese culture narratives and Indonesia’s political history; a moving-image work by Tracey Moffatt (Australia/United States), a witty commentary on preconceptions in cinema’s depictions of romantic relationships; and a pair of sculptural bulls made from branded corn beef tins by Michel Tuffery (New Zealand), first featured as part of a performance during APT3.
An official opening event will be held on Friday 25 August at 6pm with guest speaker QAGOMA Curatorial Manager, Asian & Pacific Art, Tarun Nagesh.
A floor talk and morning tea with QAGOMA Curator, Contemporary Asian Art, Rueben Keehan will be held on Sunday 3 September at 10am. Bookings are essential for both events.
