Council is undertaking work relating to slippage of the embankment in front of the road on Esplanade, Wellington Point.

The embankment slipped during severe weather events in February 2022.

As advised by signage at the site, there is evidence of asbestos in the embankment relating to historical filling that would have occurred many years ago.

Council has engaged a consulting engineering firm to develop recommendations on the best way to rehabilitate the site. This work is still in progress.

Given the difficult nature of the work, a timeframe for completion has yet to be determined.

According to feedback from the consultant, the risk to private property of further land slippage is low.

The landslip also caused the closure of the foreshore track between Main Road and the eastern side of Wellington Point Recreation Reserve.

Council is investigating possible solutions to repair the impacted area, however the track remains closed until the works are complete.

The Wellington Point Recreation Reserve can still be accessed via Main Road.

Council is working with specialised organisations to minimise the project risks and impact to the community.

Fencing and signage alerting the public of hazards on Esplanade will remain until further notice, and Council advises residents to kindly keep away from the area.

Council will continue to keep residents informed as more information becomes available.
