Redland City Council has installed new stairs at the Ron Field jetty on Macleay Island.

Mayor Karen Williams said the new sturdier stair structure on the popular jetty would serve the local community well into the future.

“A recent Council investigation revealed the wooden stairs descending from the jetty to the water were damaged and unstable,” she said.

“Council removed the old stair structure and replaced it with sturdy metal stairs, which are now open for public use.”

Division 5 Councillor Mark Edwards said the jetty was a popular location for both residents and visitors to the island.

“It is frequently used for recreational fishing and also as a multi-level landing spot for small boats, so I’m sure this safety improvement will be well received,” he said.
