Bay Island Transit Systems have advised that Southern Moreton Bay Island ferry services travelling in both directions from Redland Bay Ferry Terminal to Russell Island have been cancelled after 5.50pm this evening due to debris in the bay. A  passenger ferry will run at 12:10am. This service will run very slowly due the debris in the bay.

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams, Chair of the Redland City Local Disaster Management Group said that the Local Disaster Coordination Centre is working with Maritime Safety Queensland, Department of Transport and Main Roads (Queensland) and water police to safely remove debris in the area.

“To assist anyone unable to get back to the Southern Moreton Bay Islands this evening, a respite centre will open at the Redland Bay Community Hall, Weinam Street, Redland Bay from 5:30pm until 12:10am April 1.

“I encourage any residents affected by the cessation of the ferries to seek alternate accommodation arrangements on the mainland this evening.”

Ferry day time services are expected to resume on Saturday 1 April at 6.20 am from Russell Island. Night time services to the SMBIs may be effected for several days until debris has been cleared from the water.
